The Corner Country lies within the Unincorporated Area of New South Wales and does not have local government.   Administration of the region is the responsibility of the NSW Department of Land and Property Management Authority  (LPMA).

The Local Government Filming Protocol 2009 is appropriate for the region, and the LPMA does stipulate the following for Crown land:

  • On Crown Reserves where there is a Reserve Trust appointed it will be their responsibility to grant approvals or licenses.
  • On Crown Reserves where there is no Reserve Trust  LPMA,  Dubbo, will be the contact.
  • On Western Lands Leases ( station properties) the LPMA can issue a short term temporary license but only with the consent of the lessee.
  • On freehold land it is up to the owner to negotiate any use of his/her land.  In towns like Tibooburra, the Village Committee would need to be involved.
  • The main requirement for filmmaking companies is that the company must have adequate public liability insurance and that any conditions about access, hours of operation, timeframes, activities to take place, and environmental restoration  are clearly defined so that both parties understand what will be taking place.

Sturt and Mutawintji National Parks are governed by the Department of Environment and Climate Change with specific regulations applicable.
